I Am Your Biggest Fan Review: Haylie Duff’s Enjoyable Lifetime Thriller
Stepping behind the camera, Haylie Duff has thrown herself headfirst into directing. The Lifetime
movie star-turned-director has churned out six films in the span of two years, with three
upcoming projects in various stages of production. And her most recent project, I Am Your
Biggest Fan, may just be her strongest film to date.
I Am Your Biggest Fan Review

The title and plot of this film clearly draw inspiration from the Oscar-winning 1990 film, Misery. Only here, the story is centered around a potential reboot for a fictional 90s-era TV show, titled From The Hart, that
has obsessed fans begging for a comeback.
That is where the well-intentioned barista, Ellen (Lauren Cole), comes in. She was practically
raised by the show and took solace in it as a child while her parents violently argued. Lucky for
her, the star of the show, Delilah Douglas (Megan Carasquillo), has become a regular at her
cafe.
Delilah has since retired from acting after the show’s finale nearly a decade ago. She has grown
up to become an acting teacher at a local high school and has battled to shake the trauma of
her upbringing and the stress of Hollywood.

But when From The Hart trends on streaming services, fans desperately hope that they will
once again see their favorite characters on screen. Everyone but Delilah agrees to sign on,
causing vitriol from her friends, family, fans, and even her character’s former love interest, Cody
(Colton Tapp).
In the midst of intense social media scrutiny, Delilah receives alarming death threats and sees
everyone turn against her. The stress of the situation forces her to leave her home and look for
comfort elsewhere. Turning up at the cafe again, Ellen offers up her own home as solace for the
former actress.
As the two girls establish a sweet rapport and commiserate over their own traumatic
upbringings, everything appears to have settled down for Delilah. But things quickly take a dark
turn when Ellen is revealed to be an obsessed fan who has centered her life around Delilah’s
former show. Before Delilah can react to the shocking news, Ellen quickly sedates her and turns
Delilah into a prisoner.
With no way out, Delilah tries and fails to thwart her increasingly insane captor. As her ex, Cody,
begins to worry about Delilah’s disappearance, he takes it into his own hands to find his friend.
But it leads viewers to question whether his intentions are rooted in his own self-interest, as his
career hinges upon Delilah’s participation in the reboot. Tapp keeps his character’s intentions
close to the vest, and when they are finally revealed, it leads to an explosive finale.
The twists and turns of the film are often expected and routinely tipped off. But what unfolds is a
compelling cat-and-mouse dynamic that fits perfectly into the Lifetime thriller genre.
Cole wonderfully toes the line between sweet and evil, and shifts between those personalities
well. Her upbeat manner belies her violent tendencies, and her pairing with the more
even-keeled Carrasquillo shines.
While I Am Your Biggest Fan may often be predictable, that never took away from the project’s
watchability.
Duff makes some exciting choices in the thriller-of-the-week style movie, and it is clear she is
sharpening her directorial eye. The film opens up with a young Ellen watching her beloved
sitcom as her family argues. The filmmaker focuses on the child’s face and expression as she
attempts to drown out the fight taking place. It is a scene that is gripping and sets the tone for
what is to come. And what follows is an engaging thriller helmed by two capable young actresses in Carasquillo and Cole.
In Conclusion…
I Am Your Biggest Fan may not receive the type of Oscar buzz that the film’s inspiration garnered. But this film isn’t looking for the same type of acclaim. It knows what it is and succeeds in being an
easily digestible thriller with a worthwhile ebb and flow that results in a heartwarming finale. For
fans looking to follow the Duffs or simply sit down with a popcorn thriller, this is a great pick.
