With the amount of really disappointing reboots that have been flooding the entertainment industry lately, you may be wondering, “Is Zoey 102 good?”

I was really skeptical when I first saw the trailer for Zoey 102.

Not another unrequested sequel trying to relive the long-gone glory days of novel and creative television.

Before deciding to watch this movie for myself, I saw a few Zoey 102 reviews calling it washed up and outdated but I couldn’t disagree more.

Zoey 102, is the fun, bright, entertaining sequel to the successful and nostalgic Nick classic Zoey 101.

Everything that made Zoey 101 fantastic is the same energy that was brought into Zoey 102 while incorporating the modern-day hijinks of fake reality TV, hyper-realistic cakes, and over-reliance on advanced technology.

Zoey 102 preserves the integrity of the preexisting series while still bringing this nostalgic, over-the-top humor to the present day.

When Zoe's friends from high school, Quinn and Logan, decide to get married, she must learn to balance being a good maid of honor, confronting her first and only love, Chase, and maintaining her demanding job at a reality dating show.

These parts of Zoey 102 stuck out to me the most: the HD quality of the visuals, the bright pop soundtrack, and the OG Nickelodeon vibes.

The HD Quality Visuals

The first thing that I noticed about this movie was how bright, crisp, clear, and colorful the visuals were.

The clarity really draws you in and the brightness creates this fun, pop, uplifting atmosphere. It automatically wakes you up.

I personally have an affinity for reality dating shows so to see this show recreate the artificial, exaggerated, bright atmosphere of a Love Island adjacent show was definitely eye candy for me.

The Pop Soundtrack

Another aspect of this movie that really stood out was the pop soundtrack. Similar to the Barbie movie, Zoey 102 also had a soundtrack full of popular songs that you can sing along to.

It automatically builds a sense of familiarity with the movie where you’re tempted to sing along.

And the music is not only catchy but it also narrates the emotions of the scene efficiently.

The OG Nick Vibes

A final aspect that stood out was the classic Nickelodeon vibes that shone through in the film.

Though the characters (and the actors) have been out of high school for over a decade, their relationships have not really evolved much since then. And the actors seemed to melt back easily into their old character personalities.

Career-wise their lives have progressed and they’ve found their footing in society but romantically they’re stuck on the same people from high school.

The hijinks that ensue from Zoey trying to balance work and being a good maid of honor are spot on to the classic Nick movie storyline.

Things fall apart and embarrassingly funny events ensue and I was completely engaged the whole way through.

I enjoyed the journey and it was fun and easy to get immersed in this fun storyline.

Though predictable, the progression of the narrative is engaging. It maintains the classic Nickelodeon vibes of taseful cheesiness and clever zaniness that made Zoey 101 so much fun to watch.

In Conclusion…

Regardless of the bad reviews, Zoey 102 brings all the energy that made Zoey 101 so great into the modern-day world.

The interwoven plot lines with things imminently falling apart, hilarious antics, and goofy plot twists were precisely the kind of comeback that honors the structure and formula that made Zoey 101 as successful as it was.
