I have no idea why the general consensus ratings for Murder Mystery 2 are as low as 4s and 5s out of 10. Murder Mystery 2 is good! It’s so much fun to watch for several reasons. If you enjoy comedic murder mysteries like Knives Out then Murder Mystery 2 is the movie for you.

These parts of Murder Mystery 2 are what made it an enjoyable movie: the fun Main Character Chemistry, the Unpredictable Plot, and the Great Comedic Timing.

Great Main Character Chemistry

One reason why Murder Mystery 2 is good is the main characters have such fun, comfortable, and seamless chemistry.

Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston present a very believable dynamic of a seasoned, married couple. They have this best friend vibe that just feels so natural and is easy to watch which emits through the screen.

Of course, they still get on each other’s nerves but they have each other’s backs regardless. That unconditional partnership is convincingly portrayed and felt.

Unpredictable Plot

Another aspect of this movie that makes it so fun to watch is that the plot is engagingly unpredictable. I must preface this by saying that for me, specifically, finding a murder mystery unpredictable is not exactly a huge compliment because I usually never guess the killer correctly.

But nonetheless, the plot is full of so many unexpected twists and turns that you are constantly in the dark about who the murderer could be.

This movie did a great job of maintaining a level of curiosity among viewers and keeping them engaged in the narrative.

Honestly, I didn’t have too many written notes for this film because I was too busy enjoying the ride. I didn’t want to miss a single detail.

It’s Hilarious

A final aspect of the Murder Mystery Sequel that stood out is how hilarious it is. This movie made fun of so many murder mystery tropes (AKA: the backstabbing henchman).

It includes clever comedic threads that are woven throughout the film and the movie tastefully revisits punchlines without beating those moments to death.

There are so many laugh-out-loud moments in the film, Murder Mystery 2, that truly were fun to watch with my family.

Artistic Choices

There is one particular scene where Anniston and Sandler jump out the window of a burning building and it’s just so visually captivating.

Another artistic moment that stood out to me was this one-take scene where the wedding party first realizes that a murderer is on foot. This shot captured the suspicious accusations of all the relevant parties in one take and it was so smoothly done.

One-take shots that are cleanly executed are always so impressive to me.

Criticisms

Once the characters and the audience discovers who the killer is, there are still a few loose ends and confusion about the killer’s motive. It doesn’t all make sense.

In Conclusion…

Murder Mystery 2 is fun, hilarious, and engaging. Overall, I found it to be a fun movie to wind down with friends or family on the weekend.

I don’t relate to why people didn’t enjoy this film because it’s truly a good time.

With this movie, you don’t need to take everything so seriously, it’s entertaining all the way through, and the twists and turns of the narrative have you cracking your brain the whole time trying to solve the mystery.

Murder Mystery 2 is an easy, enjoyable watch.
